University College Cork (UCC), a world-class university is a
constituent university of the National University of Ireland, and is located in
Cork. The university was established in 1845 and combines a reach tradition of
teaching and research and as one of the three Queen's Colleges situated in
Belfast, Cork, and Galway. Under the Irish Universities Act 1908 it became
University College Cork.
The Universities Act 1997 changed the name of the university to the National University of Ireland, Cork, and a 1998 ministerial order changed the university's name to University College Cork – National University of Ireland, Cork, although it is still almost universally known as University College Cork.
