Founded in 1916, Columbia Business School (CBS) is a
business school affiliated with Columbia University, a prestigious private
research university located in New York City. It is recognized as one of the
six Ivy League business schools and has the distinction of being one of the
oldest business schools globally.
In 1945, Columbia Business School was authorized to confer
the MBA degree. Shortly thereafter, in the 1950s, the school adopted the Hermes
symbol as its emblem, reflecting the entrepreneurial nature of the Greek god Hermes
and his association with trade, commerce, and communications.
In 1952, CBS enrolled its last group of graduate students.
Currently, the institute offers executive education programs leading to the
Certificate of Business Excellence (CIBE) and alumni status, as well as various
MBA and PhD degree programs. Along with the full-time MBA, the school also
offers four Executive MBA programmes.
The EMBA-Global program was launched in 2001 in
collaboration with the London Business School), the EMBA-Americas program was
launched in 2012, and the EMBA-Global Asia program was launched in 2009 in
collaboration with the London Business School and the University of Hong Kong
