Uttaranchal University, a private institution, was established in 2013 under the Uttaranchal Institutions Act 2012 (Act No. 11 of 2013 for Uttarakhand). Located in Dehradun, the capital of the state of Uttarakhand, it is serving as a major educational centre.

In compliance with Section 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act, 1956, the University Grants Commission, Government of India, as well as other statutory organizations of the State and the country have recognized Uttaranchal University. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an independent arm of the Indian University Grants Commission, awarded the university the prestigious A+ grade.

Uttaranchal University is now undisputedly one of the top 5% HEIs in the country for online education. In the first cycle of accreditation, it received "NAAC A+" grade, making it the first private university in the state of Uttarakhand to do so. Uttaranchal University has more than five distinct course options available including undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate and doctoral degrees. For the 2024-25 admission sessions, online courses of Uttaranchal University include BBA, MBA, BCA, MCA and B.A. are included.
