Assam University is a central public university located in
Silchar, Assam, India. It was established by the provisions of an Act enacted
by the Parliament of India in the year 1994. Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha is the
Chancellor, the Governor of Assam is the Chief Rector and the President of
India serves as the Visitor of the University.
The university has sixteen schools that offer humanities,
languages, environmental sciences, informatics, life sciences, physical
sciences, social sciences, law, technology and management studies. There are a
total of 42 departments in sixteen schools. Assam University has 73
undergraduate colleges as of 31 March 2020 in five districts under its
jurisdiction.
Assam University is an institutional signatory of the Global
University Network for Innovation (GUNI), Barcelona and the United Nations
Global Compact (UNGC) for its commitment towards academic social
