Punjab University, Chandigarh (PU) is an Indian collegiate
public state university located in Chandigarh. Funded through both the state
and union governments, it is regarded as a state university. It has its origins
in Punjab University, established in Lahore in 1882. After the partition of
India, the university was reestablished on 1 October 1947, under the name
University of East Punjab.
Initially established primarily in a cantonment in Sloan, it later relocated to a newly constructed campus in Chandigarh, where it was renamed Punjab University. It is accredited by NAAC at the five-star level, with the highest NAAC A++ accreditation grade. The university has 78 department dedicated to teaching and research, 10 centers and chairs for academic and research at the main campus located in Chandigarh.

It has 201 affiliated colleges spread across eight districts of the state of Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, with regional centers in Muktsar, Ludhiana, and Hoshiarpur. It is among the top-ranked government funded universities in India.
The campus is residential, area over 550 acres (220 hectares)
located in sectors 14 and 25 of the city of Chandigarh. The main administrative
and academic buildings are located in Sectors 14 and 25 of Chandigarh city.
