the main campus of the Purdue University system. The university was founded in
1869 after a contribution of land and financial resources from Lafayette
entrepreneur John Purdue, aimed at open an institution dedicated to science,
technology, and agriculture.
Purdue University is a member of the Association of American Universities and is referred as an "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very high research activity" institution. It has the largest student enrollment of any single university campus in Indiana and boasts the ninth-largest international student population among universities in the United States. Additionally, Purdue is known for housing the oldest computer science program in the country.
