Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), established in 1861, is a prestigious private institution located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. More than 150 years old renowned globally for its excellence in science, engineering, and technology, MIT consistently ranks among the top universities worldwide.

MIT researchers are at the forefront of developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, climate adaptation, HIV, cancer and poverty alleviation, while in the past MIT research has fueled scientific breakthroughs such as the development of radar, the invention of magnetic core memory and the concept of the expanding universe.

However, science and technology are not the only strings to MIT's bow. Nearly 20 percent of MIT undergraduates join a sports team, and with 33 varsity sports MIT has one of the most extensive intercollegiate athletic programs in the world.

MIT is located on 168 acres of grounds that stretch for more than a mile along the Cambridge edge of the Charles River Basin. The campus features stunning sites designed by people such as architects Alvar Aalto, Frank Gehry and Steven Hollin, as well as buildings in a variety of architectural styles, from neoclassical to modernist and brutalist.

MIT is the ideal option for students looking to study in the United States if they are willing to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees outside of IITs, NITs and Top engineering colleges in India. 41 Nobel prize winners, 48 Rhodes scholars, 61 Marshall scholars, and 3 Mitchell scholars have graduated from this institute. Among all the famous MIT alumni, some of the popular Indian alumni include Raghuram Rajan, Arvind Subramanian, and N. R. Narayana Murthy.
