IIM CAP or Common Admission Process is a single-window selection process for MBA admissions into the nine new IIMs (10 IIMs this year). Selection is based on CAT cutoff. Read this article about IIM CAP 2024 for MBA admission based on CAT 2023 score.

The IIM CAP process was first conducted in 2015 with all the 6 new IIMs (at that time) namely IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Raipur, IIM Rohtak together to conduct the common PI round. Later, IIM Rohtak opted out of the CAP round. With the launch of 7 more IIMs in 2015-16, the number of CAP participating IIMs increased to 4 and nine as 'baby IIMs' (IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur).

IIM Nagpur joins the IIM CAP process, taking the number of institutes to 9. Now with IIM Nagpur joining CAP 2024 for MBA Admission 2024, the number of CAP participating IIMs has reached 10.

The IIM admission process involves shortlisting of candidates based on their CAT exam scores, conduct of Written Aptitude Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) and final selection based on various parameters including previous academic record and work experience (if any). While 11 old IIMs conduct admissions individually, the 10 new IIMs have a common admission process.

Under this Common Admission Process or CAP, the selection process of the participating IIMs is common. The responsibility of conducting CAP is given to one of the participating IIMs on a rotation basis every year. Last year, IIM Trichy conducted IIM CAP for admission to the 2024 MBA batch. The institute to conduct IIM CAP 2024 will be announced in January 2024.

IIM will conduct admissions for MBA/PGP between February and April 2024. The final admission list for all top IIMs and IIM CAP participating institutes will be announced in May 2024. Candidates have to check their admission status on the website of the IIMs by using CAT 2023 Login Credentials.
