The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is a government body in India operating under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India. Staff Selection Commission was established in 1975, and its primary function is to recruit staff for various Group B and Group C posts in ministries, departments, and subordinate offices of the Government of India. Staff Selection Commission is headed by a Chairman who is assisted by two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations.

SSC combined graduate level is known for conducting competitive exams that open the gateway to secure, well-paying government jobs. It conducts national-level exams, including the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (Full form of SSC CGL) exam, to fill these positions. The SSC also administers other exams like the Staff Selection Commission CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) and SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff).

Major Exams Conducted by SSC

SSC conducts several recruitment exams for different educational qualifications and job profiles. The most prominent among them are:

+ SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) – For graduates, offers Group B and C posts like Income Tax Inspector, Assistant Section Officer, Auditor, etc.

+ SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) – For candidates with 10+2 qualification; posts include Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Data Entry Operator (DEO), and Postal Assistant.

+ SSC Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) – For non-technical staff in various ministries and offices.

+ SSC Junior Engineer (JE) – For engineering graduates/diploma holders in civil, electrical, and mechanical streams.

+ SSC Stenographer Grade C and D – For stenography posts in various departments.

+ SSC Central Police Organisation (CPO) – For Sub-Inspector posts in Delhi Police, CRPF, BSF, CISF, and ITBP.

The Staff Selection Commission Conducts CGL (Combined Graduate Level) exams in four tiers. The first two tiers of the exams are conducted in online mode, while the SSC CGL Tier III exam is conducted in pen-and-paper mode, and the Tier IV exam will be conducted as a computer skill test. Although the exam pattern varies, most SSC exams follow a multi-ties structure:
