Veterinary Science Course: Becoming a veterinarian is a rewarding career option for
those who are passionate about animal health and welfare. Veterinary courses
are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to care for
animals and manage their health. In veterinary courses, students learn about
animal anatomy, diseases, nutrition, surgical procedures, and animal behavior.
Veterinary education is available at multiple levels,
including undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral programs. To qualify for
veterinary studies, candidates must complete their 12th grade in science
(physics, chemistry, biology) from a recognized institution with at least 55%
marks. Admission to undergraduate veterinary programs is determined based on
the marks obtained in class 12 or the NEET exam. In contrast, admission to
postgraduate veterinary programs depends exclusively on the scores of the ICAR
AIEEA exam.
UG veterinary courses usually involve a BVSc or related
field, while PG veterinary doctor courses involve an MVSc or Doctor of
Philosophy (PhD) degree in veterinary science or related subjects. Popular
colleges offering veterinary courses are Indian Veterinary Research Institute Bareilly (IVRI Bareilly), BHU Varanasi, west Bengal University of Animal and
Fishery Sciences Kolkata (WBUAFS Kolkata), Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture
and Technology etc. The fees for veterinary courses range between Rs 15,000 and
Rs 2 lakh/Year.
Upon completing their veterinary education, graduates have
the opportunity to pursue various careers in the field, including roles such as
animal anatomists, animal chiropractors, veterinarians, and animal pathologists
etc. The salary for these positions typically ranges from 6 LPA to 8 LPA.
