The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a prestigious
competition for pre-university students and the oldest among the International
Science Olympiads. It is considered as the most esteemed mathematical contest
globally. The first IMO took place in Romania in 1959, and it has been
conducted annually since then, with the exception of 1980. Over 100 countries take
part in this event, with each nation represented by a team of six students,
along with a team leader, a deputy leader, and additional observers.
