NIRF Ranking: An Overview

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), approved by the former Ministry of Human Resource Development, was officially launched by the Minister of Human Resource Development on September 29, 2015. This NIRF framework provides a systematic approach to ranking educational institutions across the country.

This methodology is based on a comprehensive understanding of the overall recommendations made by a core committee constituted by MHRD to identify broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions in various academic fields. These parameters broadly cover "teaching, learning and resources," "research and professional practice," "graduate outcomes," "outreach and inclusivity," and "perception."

NIRF ranking has increased the ranking areas over the years and the Ministry of Education has also brought some important changes in some parameters. Many institutions ranked in NIRF can obtain a general overall rank as well as applicable discipline specific ranks.
