What is the CMAT Exam?

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a computer-based national-level MBA entrance exam conducted by the government for admission to 1000 AICTE-approved management colleges (MBA/PGDM) across India. Till 2018, the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) was conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), now CMAT exam is conducted by the National Testing Authority (NTA), constituted by the Government of India. More than 75,000 MBA aspirants apply for the CMAT entrance exam every year. CMAT entrance exam 2025 presents a unique opportunity for all aspirants, as no one will be disqualified. 

CMAT entrance exam is the second largest national-level MBA/PGDM entrance exam in India after CAT and XAT. CMAT is an easier test than CAT and XAT, with a lower entrance cutoff and simpler questions. You have to solve 100 questions in 3 hours. The total marks in the CMAT entrance exam are 400. CMAT exam consists of five different sections, namely Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation, General Awareness, Language Comprehension, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

As per CMAT score vs percentile analysis, you can get a percentile equal to 81-89 with a score of 201-280 in the exam. However, for admission into top MBA institutes like JBIMS, GIM Goa, SIMSREE, Great Lakes Institute of Management Chennai, etc. You need a CMAT score above 280 and a percentile above 95 for a top MBA college in India.

CMAT 2025 Exam Pattern:

The Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) exam pattern consists of 100 MCQ-type questions, divided into 5 sections. CMAT is a computer-based examination conducted online mode. The CMAT exam 2025 is to be conducted in two slots on a single day. The CMAT exam from 2022 remains on this pattern. The same pattern is likely to be followed for 2025 as well, as given below:

CMAT Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates planning to appear for CMAT 2026 must ensure that they fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria before applying so that their candidature is not cancelled later. The comprehensive educational eligibility requirements for the CMAT exam 2026 are given below:

+ The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in any stream or an equivalent degree from a recognised university.

+ Undergraduate final year students can also appear for CMAT 2026. Their candidature will remain provisional until they submit the graduation completion certificate to the MBA institute.

+ There is no minimum percentage of marks necessary for graduation in the CMAT examination. Only passing marks are needed.

+ MBA colleges accepting CMAT scores may have a minimum mark of 50% for unreserved categories and 45% for reserved categories.

+ There is no upper age limit for CMAT. Anyone at any stage of their career can appear for CMAT.

CMAT 2026 will have five sections, each of which will have 20 questions (80 marks), a total of 100 questions, and a total of 400 marks. As per the trends and sources from NTA, CMAT 2026 is expected to take place in 3rd week of January 2026, and registration will happen around November-December 2025. A 6-month structured plan is ideal.
