IIMs in india: The Union government on Wednesday said that since 2010, 10 new Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) have been set up in the country. According to the education ministry, IIMs are now open in 20 states across India, with the latest being the Indian Institute of Management. Jammu, which was established in 2016.
Considered to be one of the finest institutes in India for
management education and training, the first IIM (IIM Ahmedabad) was
established in 1961. The union education ministry also released a graph which
showed the growth in the number of IIMs in India from 1970 to 2022. The graph
shows that the number of IIMs in India has increased five times from the 1990s to 2022.
Here’s the list of new IIMs that have opened up in India in
the last 10 years:
1. Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur: Established in 2011 at Kashipur, Uttarakhand and offers Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM), Executive Post Graduate Program in Management (EPGP) among other courses. In the 2022 National Institutes of Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, IIM-Kashipur secured the 23rd position.
2. Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli: IIM Tiruchirappalli
established in 2011 in Tamil Nadu, the institute offers Post Graduate Program
in Management (PGP), Fellow Program in Management (FPM) among other courses. The
institute ranked 18 in the latest rankings by the NIRF.
3. Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur: Established in 2011 at Udaipur, Rajasthan and offers Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM), Fellow Program in Management (FPM), MDP for Women Entrepreneurs among other courses. IIM Udaipur secured 22nd rank in the 2022 NIRF ranking.
4. Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur: The Institute was opened in 2015 in Nagpur, Maharashtra and was one of the six IIMs to be established in the same year. IIM Nagpur offers Post Graduate Programs in Management (PGPM), Doctoral Programs apart from other courses. IIM Nagpur was ranked 43rd in the 2022 NIRF ranking.
5. Indian Institute of Management, Amritsar: The Institute was established in Punjab’s Amritsar in 2015, IIM Amritsar offers a 2-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM). As per the NIRF rankings, IIM-Amritsar was ranked 55th among the top 100 colleges offering management courses in India.
6. Indian Institute of Management, Bodh Gaya: The institute was established in 2015 in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, IIM Bodh Gaya offers Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM), Doctoral program among other courses. The institute ranked 73 in the latest rankings by the NIRF.
8. Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur: The Institute was established in 2015 at Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh and offers full-time residential PhD program along with other courses. IIM Sirmaur was ranked 69th in the 2022 NIRF ranking.
9. Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam: The institute was opened in 2015 in Andhra Pradesh. The institute offers Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) apart from other courses. IIM Visakhapatnam was ranked 33rd in the 2022 NIRF ranking.
10. Indian Institute of Management, Jammu: The latest in the list of IIMs in India, IIM Jammu was established in 2016. The institute offers Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), Doctoral Programme, among other courses and was ranked 36th in the NIRF rankings.
IIM Admission
Process:
The admission process of IIMs consists of entrance exam
Common Admission Test (CAT), written aptitude test (WAT), group discussion (GD)
and personal interview (PI). For IIM's flagship program - PGP/MBA, CAT score is
accepted for admission. Foreign candidates can apply through GMAT. Candidates
have to appear for CAT (GMAT in case of international students) then clear the
WAT-GD-PI round for admission.
For executive programs, candidates are usually selected on
the basis of written test prepared by the institute, work experience, statement
of purpose etc.
Programmes Offered by
IIMs in India:
The Indian Institutes of Management provide a range of
postgraduate (PG), doctoral, and executive education programs, such as:
MBA/PGP: The two-year Postgraduate Programme in Management
(PGP) is the flagship programme across all IIMs, and is considered at par with
regular MBA programmes. After the passing of the IIM Act 2017, most IIMs have
started offering Master in Business Administration (MBA) degrees. IIMs are most
famous and rated for this two-year full-time MBA/PGP course.
EPGP: The Executive Postgraduate Programme or EPGP is
offered by almost all IIMs. This course is specially designed for mid-level
professionals with 5-12 years of work experience.
IPM: Integrated Program in Management or IPM is a five-year
academic program available to students after completing class 12. The course is
offered by several IIMs including IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Bodh
Gaya and IIM Jammu.
This course is available through various institutes like IIM
Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu.
PGPX: Some IIMs also offer one-year postgraduate diploma
programmes for graduates with work experience.
FPM: Some Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) offer the
Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), a doctoral programme recognized
internationally as equivalent to a PhD.
Certificate Executive Programmes (Short Term or Part-time):
Most IIMs also offer short-term executive education/EMBA courses and part-time programmes
that lead to certificates.
Other Unique Programmes: Some IIMs also offer unique
programmes, such as IIM Indore's five-year Integrated Programme in Management
and IIM Lucknow's three-year Working Managers' Programme.
