JEE Advanced is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) after JEE Main. Only the top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. The exam is conducted once a year, usually in the month of May, by one of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on a rotational basis.

The JEE Advanced exam consists of two papers, each of three hours duration. The question paper consists of multiple-choice questions as well as numerical answer type questions. The exam tests the candidates' knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam is conducted in online mode, and the results are usually declared in the month of June.

Admission to IITs and other top engineering colleges in India is based on the JEE Advanced ranks obtained by the candidates. The admission process includes counseling and seat allocation based on the candidates' ranks and the availability of seats in the colleges.

It is important to note that only the top 250,000 candidates in JEE Main are eligible to compete in JEE Advanced.

It is considered one of the most challenging engineering entrance exams in the world. IIT JEE Advanced is considered one of the toughest exams in the world. The exam is conducted annually by one of the 7 Indian Institutes of Technology or IISc Bangalore in Computer Based Test (CBT) Mode, under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board (JAB).

Who Should Take JEE Advanced?

I) Students aiming for IITs or top-tier engineering research institutes.

II) Those confident in advanced-level Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

III) Candidates prepared to solve challenging and analytical questions.

Top Colleges Other Than IITs that Accept JEE Advanced Scores

Apart from IITs, here are the two major institutes that accept JEE Advanced scores:

IIST: Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) Thiruvananthapuram uses Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) scores. Students can apply for 4-year B.Tech (Aerospace Engineering), and 4-year B.Tech (Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics)) and 5-year Dual Degree (B.Tech + Master of Science/Master of Technology) courses based on JEE Advanced results.

IIPE: Indian Institute of Petroleum accepts JEE Advanced as an eligibility test for UG admissions. The institute offers B.Tech in Petroleum Engineering (No. of seats: 62), Chemical Engineering (No. of seats: 63) and Mechanical Engineering (No. of seats: 40).

RGIPT: Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) is another institute that accepts JEE Advanced scores for admission to B.Tech.

Note that admission to the above colleges is not through JoSAA counselling. These institutes conduct their own counselling process based on JEE Advanced scores for admission.
